In early 2018, Matt and I decided to purchase our first 1/4 beef from a local farmer. That decision turned out to be a life-changing experience, one that wouldn't only benefit our health but also change the way we lived!

We were both working out and staying active, doing "all of the things" to be healthy - or so we thought! We still felt terrible, lacked energy, and couldn't figure out what we were missing.

We started watching health documentaries and researching. We began paying attention to what we were eating - we didn’t start counting calories or dieting - we started reading labels and being more aware. We looked into where our food was coming from. We chose to pay attention to what we were putting into our bodies and how our bodies reacted to what we were eating! We learned about animal cruelty and how not all animals' living conditions are equal. We learned that many big farms pump their animals full of antibiotics to "keep the animal healthy" and stuff them full of corn and other grains in their last 30-90 days of life to fatten them up. We learned that those animals don't get the lives they deserve, and aren't raised with kindness and good pastures. We learned that they weren't being butchered humanely. We learned that we didn't want to continue feeding that meat to our family.

We decided to begin our search for our piece of land where we could grow and raise our food!

In 2020, after much search and prayer, we were blessed with our 20-acre farm, and this is where it all began! We put up fences and made pastures, put a well in, and purchased our first steer! Through trial and error, lots of patience, and lots of learning, we raised our very own steer ready to fill our freezer. It was perfect - we knew everything about the animal! We knew where it had come from, what it ate, where the water it drank came from. We knew this animal had lived a healthy and happy life, and we knew that it was humanely butchered.

It was the best-tasting beef we'd ever had - not only because it genuinely tasted good, but because we had put our blood, sweat, and tears into preparing the land and caring for this animal.

Now, we continue the tradition of caring for beef, and we share it with you, our family, and friends! Take a step in the direction of changing your diet and lifestyle, reserve your beef through L&L Farmstead today, and support our small farm!
